It can be a real temptation to turn parts of life into the lowest threshold, least labor, minimum effort exerted so that we just scrape by. It can be a temptation with work, where once we exerted ourselves to excel, but over time we start to coast on credentials and past accomplishments. It can be a temptation with family, where the effort starts to drift to mediocrity, then maintenance mode as we become busy and distracted. Philippians 2:5-11 is one of my absolute favorite passages in scripture. It's the succinct retelling of the story of Jesus, who was and is God, but didn't use his position and power as an excuse.     How do you treat others when adversity hits? This is a chief concern for Paul as he addresses the church in Philippi. He knows the kind of people they are towards him. It is amazing to learn how many successes throughout history have been born out of events that seemed like failures. This is the type of story we see throughout scripture. God takes situations that seem hopeless and transforms them into hopeful possibilities. God takes situations that seem disastrous and transforms them into successes. Click here to read more.

It's obvious from the opening verses of the letter to the Philippians that Paul dearly loves the people there. There are some people that are a bit more difficult to love, the kind where a divine mandate to love everyone gives us the extra push we need. Click here to read more.
